PASSWORD LOGON

To remove the Windows 98 Password Log-on Box you need to do the following:

When the password log-on box comes up - DO NOT CLICK ON CANCEL.

You must type in a user name.

Now use your tab button and TAB the cursor into the next box.

Again use the tab button and tab cursor onto the OK button.

Now click the OK button.

A confirm password box will come up now.

If you do not get this confirm password box, you did it wrong. Reboot and try again.

When asked to confirm password, again use tab button to TAB out of password box, and onto OK button.

Now click OK.

To change password in control panel under passwords:

Remember that TAB is your old password.

When asked for old password, use tab button to TAB through old password box.

Proceed and put in new password now.

Removing AUTO-LOG ON password

To remove an auto-logging password follow these steps:

Go to C:\Windows.
Now look for a file by your logon name.
This file will be followed by a: pwl extension.
Right click and DELETE this file.

If you have more than one logon user on your computer then you MUST repeat this step for each user of that computer.

Now reboot your computer and your logon request box will once again appear.

If the above actions do not bring any positive response from your computer, there is one more option:

Go to control panel / networking. In the middle of the box you will see:
Client for Microsoft Networks, or Windows Family Logon, or Microsoft Family Logon.
Change this to: Microsoft Family Logon.

Only problem I have seen is that if you need a special dial up adapter (like AOL), or a special TCP/IP (AOL), even these tricks won't work.

If you still can't get the password removed email me and I will see if I can help:
