PROGRAM INSTALLATION
AFRAID OF INSTALLING NEW SOFTWARE? DO YOU CANCEL BEFORE IT'S DONE BECAUSE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND IT?
STEP BY STEP :
1. You are always ask to accept or decline the license agreement. ALWAYS CLICK ACCEPT. If you do not, setup will cancel.
2. You will usually be asked to insert your name and a company name. If you are not a company, then type your own name in the name box, and in the company box type: home pc.
3. Product ID number. This may or may not be filled in. If it is not then enter the number into the serial number box. If it is, then you will be asked for confirmation of the number and/or your name/company name. Just click OK to all.
4. Program installation path. Always let setup use the default path to install the program to. It will be something like: C:\programfiles\program name\program.exe.
5. Setting up a new directory. Since this is a program that has not previously been installed on your computer there is no folder (directory) for it to install to. At this point setup will ask you if you want this directory to be created for you. Always click YES.
6. ALWAYS CHOOSE A CUSTOM INSTALL. By choosing a custom install you can see exactly what is being installed in this program. There may be things you would rather not have installed like help files or tutorials. By choosing CUSTOM install you can uncheck the things you don't want to be installed, and by doing so save a little space on your hard drive.
7. The next step of installing software will be the actual installation of it. You may be asked to click a button that says [install now], or just [install]. Click this button. The software will install and show you a progress line and tell you what is happening. Setup will tell you when it is making icons, and when it is updating the registry files to recognize the software.
8. Read me files. This is your choice to view them now. They can always be read by going to start/programs/that program. Or by going directly to the program folder in c:\programfiles. So it is not important to read them during installation.
9. Creating shortcuts. You will be asked by some setup programs if you want a shortcut put on the desktop, or start/programs menu, or on the quick start task bar. Again these are your choice to do so or not. If you did accidentally click yes and didn't want them you can always delete them later.
10. All that is left now is to click [OK] or [finish] when the setup program tells you it is done. Some programs may require you to restart your computer. By clicking ok, your computer will automatically restart.
HINT: If you are installing a program from a cd rom and it tells you to remove ALL disks from their drives and restart your computer DO NOT remove the cd rom from it's drive. A cd rom is not considered a disk. It is a cd rom. When they say disk they mean a floppy disk. Sometimes the installation needs to continue after reboot and without the cd rom it can't finish the installation.
11. Upon restart before windows loads you will see this:
Please wait while windows updates your configurations...
Windows is updating your configurations while it continues to load windows...
12. Once windows has reloaded you can access your new program either by clicking on the new desktop icon it has left or by going to: start/programs/that program.
