RESTORING WINDOWS 95 REGISTRY
This information can also be found in
the trouble shooting section of your windows 95 hand book that came with your
windows 95 cd rom software. It is in the back of the book listed under
troubleshooting. This would be the same book that has your CERTIFICATE OF
AUTHENTICITY glued to the front of it. This book can only be obtained through
purchasing an OEM version of windows 95.
1. Start or restart you computer. After your computer start, windows displays
the following text:
Starting Windows 95.....
2 While the text is on your screen, press and release the F8 key. A menu
appears.
3. Choose the Command Promt Only option.
4. At the command promt, change to your windows directory. For example, if you
windows directory is c:\windows, you would type the following:
cd c:\windows
5. Type the following commands, pressing enter after each one. (Note that
System.da0 and User.da0 contain the number zero).
attrib -h -r -s system.dat
attrib -h -r -s system.da0
attrib -h -r -s user.dat
attrib -h -r -s user.da0
6. If you want to contact product support, type the following to create files
you can refer to:
copy system.dat system.bak
copy user.dat user.bak
7. Then type:
copy system.da0 system.dat
copy user.da0 user.dat
8. Restart your computer.
