REMOTE LOADING
WHAT IS REMOTE LOADING?
Ever try and use a gif or jpg on a message board or forum that you have stored on your site and it comes up a gray triangle in Netscape or a little white box with a red X in it in IE?
Search engines will produce similar results. However if it is a Tripod image you will be redirected to a Tripod page stating it is a Tripod hosted image, but they don't tell you this is the reason you can't view it. You just get a page that tells you to look at the site terms for Tripod users.
You will notice that I have a statement at the bottom of each of my pages stating I will not be held responsible for the overall appearance of any pages stored in search engine caches, such as Google, or Goto.com. Remote loading is the reason behind it. I know the pages do not show up right unless you are at the site the images and files are stored on.
Remote loading is why.
Most (not all) FREE website hosts do not support remote loading anymore.
This will happen even if you just try and post a file from your site, like a "boot disk". Instead a Webmaster is reduced to sending people to the actual page the file or image is on. Then the person can retrieve or view the files or images from there.
It's a pain, but unless everyone wants to pay for webspace, this is the way it is.
Other than your paid server, there are only 2 that I know of that still support "remote loading". And that could change in the future also.
Those two that still do support are:
MSN and Homepage.
